Everybody seems to be getting sick right now, I was feeling a little off with stomach trouble for the weekend of this race, but had pre-registered for the 35+ 4/5s, so I showed up anyway.
My plan was to sit in and see how I felt, the race started out kinda slow, so I had plenty of time to get really warmed up before the race went crazy. Early on a Metro-mint rider went off the front alone, everybody just let him go and he dangled out there about 15 seconds away for a long time before anyone made an attempt to reel him in. A few times there were short efforts by Taleo or San Jose to bridge the gap, but he continued to stay away. After awhile I became frustrated that this guy was so easily getting away, so I got on the front and pulled hard for most of a lap, hoping to make something happen. The gap narrowed, but I didn't feel 100% so I didn't last long. I looked to others to share the work, which they did for about 1 more lap before everybody slowed down again. I was gassed after my effort so I just sat in and hung on.
The group never caught the Metromint guy, and I finished at the back of the pack. Some great pics of the race are posted here:
