My friend James and I are doing a casual Grizzly this Friday. We will be in the Northfork post office corner parking lot at about 645A and leaving about 0700.

We are planning to just do the grizzly climb and come back, not doing the turn around or going around the lake. It is probably about 70miles.

We want to get some more climbing base miles in so it might be a good ride to prep for the upcoming CVC grizzly in August, as well as the actual Grizzly.

Plan on bringing 3 water bottles and a lot of food if you have never done it.

Are you familiar with the water pipe at Rock Creek? At mile 23 (I think) there is a water pipe on the left side of the road. It is very good water. Go past the Rock Creek Campground about a mile, just past the road on the left to Whiskey Falls and before you cross the creek, you will find it. You can also get water at Jones Store.

I found that pipe, but was a little too scared to fill up there. I am thinking of bringing a few purification tabs when i ride the grizzly or other rides like that. I still ran out of water and barely made it to Jones store. We had a fun ride, though, without many cars. It was my first time at the mile high vista ... wow what a sight!

p.s. I got a great inside tip from a guy who was just temporarily working a Jones store, he told me to not waste money on buying water because the hose outside has incredible water. It is around the corner near a beautiful patio that overlooks the most beautiful meadow I have ever seen. I filled up with this water and I must say that it was the best water I ever had in my life ... but then again I had just gone through about 50 miles of not-so-easy riding, but it comes out of the hose really cool and fresh. I highly recommend doing the grizzly just to have the hose water at Jones store ... I am not kidding! You got to earn it, though, no driving up to try it, it wont taste as good.

First off... remove the hose at Jones Store. The water will be much better and much safer. Drinking water from a hose is never a good idea. Second... the water from the pipe is better. People do drive up there to get water. We have been drinking the water for many years.

You've convinced me to try that pipe! Plus, it is at a place which is very convenient to fill up.
